The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art acquired Ideum to create a unique viewing experience for the world-traveling photographer Louis Davidson to showcase his work in a new and meaningful way. Davidson spent a large amount of his life traveling the world to document and photograph 360º panoramic images of past and present synagogues.

The exhibit features a massive 86-inch display that allows visitors to immerse themselves in hundreds of breathtaking synagogues in a virtual tour kind of setting. Visitors can search Synagogues by type, location, and the year it was built. The collection features over 300 synagogues with high-resolution panoramas that are controlled with a 43-inch custom Ideum Multitouch Kiosk.

A pano of data.

Developed a comprehensive master spreadsheet to catalog the 300+ synagogue inventory, including details on origin, construction dates, historical narratives, author commentary, and affiliations with Jewish communities.

What I love about this project

When this exhibit went live, we were able to experience Louis Davidson’s work come alive in a new and profound way. The success of this project led to another interactive exhibit, history and map explorer, at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. Our curator, Mickel Yantz, has become a recurring client who has asked us to work on more exhibits at the museum.
