A photographer's lifelong journey of capturing stunning 360º panoramic images of synagogues across the globe is brought to life in this immersive, large-scale cinematic exhibition.

A grand data scale.

Developed a comprehensive master spreadsheet to catalog the 300+ synagogue inventory, including details on origin, construction dates, historical narratives, author commentary, and affiliations with Jewish communities. Curating experiences of discovery like “randomization” and architectural styles and era browsing mechanics.

I’m just browsing.

The challenge was to provide multiple ways for users to explore the synagogues. By leveraging information architecture and implementing dynamic filtering options with conditional visibility, visitors can now filter synagogues by Year Built, Location (with an interactive map), Decor Era, and even a 'Randomize' feature that offers unexpected and intriguing results for the curious explorer.

A flat world on a sphere.

A 12K resolution vector map was utilized as the primary navigation tool, guiding visitors through the exploration of over 300 synagogues. Upon engagement, the map’s micro-interactions prompted users to further refine their search via a global menu system, enhancing the browsing experience. This was achieved by designing a vector-based, stylized map with interactive toggles, wrapped around a 3D sphere to create an intuitive, 'Google Earth-like' experience.

An artist see’s through a different lens.

Photographer Louis Davidson was able to preview his work through this digital exhibition before his passing which brought a sense of fulfillment and appreciation for his work and the ability to share it with others in an exciting new way.

A recurring collaboration.

The success of this project paved the way for another exhibition with Michael Yantz at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. This time, we explored the gravity and geography of the Holocaust, presenting the Fred Strauss Collection of archival materials from that era.
