Overview

Clark Planetarium is undertaking a revitalization of one of its underutilized exhibition spaces to create an immersive Mars Colony exhibition. This exhibition will explore the longstanding debate over Mars as a potential future home for humanity, highlighting the harsh realities of the Martian environment. It will address the significant challenges of making Mars habitable, including extreme temperatures, varying day and night cycles, and the confined living conditions that future inhabitants would face.

To develop the exhibition, reference materials were gathered from archival documentaries, preliminary signage, and modern research. These resources needed to be analyzed and visually represented in a clear and engaging manner for public audiences.

The project involves creating detailed vector illustrations, semiotics, and infographics, and requires close collaboration with 3D modelers and exhibition specialists. Key considerations include accessibility, legibility, scale, data limitations, and adherence to logistical architecture standards. Additionally, the planning must encompass wayfinding, both digital and traditional exhibition formats, as well as budgeting for materials and ensuring the exhibition can adapt to service areas and elevators.
