Balloonists and novices alike soar to new heights with an interactive monolith showcasing the pioneers of ballooning.
Reaching
notable heights
A key challenge of this project was developing a database system that allowed the curator to easily update content about the distinguished balloonists inducted into the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Hall of Fame for their contributions to hot air ballooning over the past 241 years. The exhibition premiered at the 2019 FAI Inductee ceremony at the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum, honoring the latest inductees.
A cross-platform experience
The museum required the hall of fame to be both an in-person museum exhibition experience as well as an accessible from anywhere web experience. Because of this, careful consideration was given to the tablet experience of the exhibition, designing with a web first notion, then expanding media and scale in the exhibition experience.
Flying with ratios
This experience required technical challenges with the user experience using 3 form factors that require unique resolution solutions. For starters the main showstopper was a huge 86” colossus 4K 3840 x 2160 UHD display showcasing the hall of fame image galleries and used as the display for the search functions, with two bookended full HD 1920x1080p experiences which milled out Hall of Famer’s locale flags and biography stats, and then Microsoft tablet resolution for the controller experience that featured long form text, navigation schemes, and browse options, which was also used as the baseline for the web experience.
